Face 2 Face
I got frustrated and even thought of investing in music as a waste : Dibya
His first album ‘Pratha’ was a big hit, now he is coming with his second most awaited album ‘Jeevan Ko Artha’ for his fans. He is non other than Dibya Subba. He came into controversy with his hit song ‘Paschatap’ for copying a Phillipino song but hats off to Dibya as he admits the truth. “I liked the music and its composition, so, I tried to color it in Nepali version with my own lyrics”, Dibya said.
Here, we have a tea time chat with Dibya regarding his Ups and Downs in the musical career.
Singing Suruwaat
I was influenced by my father. He was a musician. He used to play guitar and ‘reeyaz’ everyday. At that time, I was around 12 years old and I used to listen to him and watch him regularly playing with the musical instruments. As my interest grew higher, I gained basic knowledge of music from my ‘baba’.
Struggle
To gain something, we have to loose something. So, everybody has to struggle to reach at the greater heights and there is no big deal in it. Even I had to face some difficulties in this field. At the time of my first recording, my ‘baba’ was not with me. He had expired. I was totally blank about the music studios and the arrangements. So, somehow I managed to record my first album on my own effort but when the album was completed, I started approaching different music companies but no one showed interest on it. At a point, I got frustrated and even thought of investing in music as a waste. I just roamed around with my album for more than a year. I was so disappointed that I even tried to forget about the album but at the mean time, I approached Situ Digital and they accepted it. Now, at this phase, I believe investing in music really worth.
Related Trainings
I got three years training on vocal from Gurudev Kamat in Do Re Mi, Jamal and music by myself. I used to try different music’s by sitting with my friends.
Nepali Music Industry
I found the music world really very different than it is seen from outside. I used to imagine myself to be in the position of other singers while they used to perform but it is not so easy. We have to tackle with many obstacles to reach up to that position.
People in the music industry
I don’t have any close relationship with the senior artist but whenever I meet seniors, I respect them and greed them from my inner heart. Talking about my colleagues, I have good link ups with them.
Previously, I felt a bit difficulty in establishing relationship with the music companies. They used to treat rudely and roughly. It may be because they have to face many new artists like me everyday and they don’t have time to remember the names of all. I also had to face those sorts of problems but gradually it’s going well.
One song and it hit the charts
I had never thought that one song would make me renowned but no one knows what the future has instored for us. But I was pretty sure that if not this time, next time would be in my favor. As music is my only option and I don’t have any other alternative, I would have tried to the extreme point.
Life after ‘Prataha’
I’ve found drastic change in my life after ‘Pratha’. Before Pratha, I was just like a bird moving freely anywhere but now I have to be very conscious regarding my behavior, dress-up, style, everything. Now everyone recognize me and respect me for my work.
Role of Media
Media plays a vital role to boost up or reduce an image of any artist. Without media, it becomes difficult for the music industry to survive.
For me, it was not so easy as I did not know anybody out here. Due to which I did not get good response earlier from my album which is now going well in the market. I really would like to thank ‘Nepal Tara’ which gave me a platform to show my hidden talent and a chance to meet the renowned persons like Prasan, Bhumika and Suraj Singh who helped me and supported me in this field.
Controversy of ‘Paschatap’
Yes, I agree that it is a copy of a Phillipino song. When I was in HongKong, I heard the song and I liked it. So, I modified it into Nepali version with my own lyrics. But I have never thought it will create such a big issue. I admit it was a mistake. It may be because I was unaware of the real world. But now I am conscious about all these issues and to prove myself, I am in a rush to release my second album ‘Jeevan Ko Artha’. In this album, I have tried to correct all those mistakes I had made before.
Memorable incident
There are many, I would like to share one of them. When I was performing live in concert for the first time in Kathmandu, it was bit late in evening, there were no lights at all and I was getting nervous but the crowd supported me by torching the lights.
Experience while performing live for the first time
I performed in Pokhara for the first time soon after the release of my debut album ‘Pratha’. While facing the crowd, I was so nervous that my hands, knees and even my vocal were shaking. But now I have gained confidence to make the crowd dance along with my performance.

Suggestion for the upcoming singers
Do respect seniors. Never loose hope and show your talent with full effort and devotion. Know your weakness, try to recover it and try not to repeat the mistake again.
Last word
My second album is releasing soon. So, please judge it and do send me comments. At last, love me and my album like before.
