Karishma clinches highest number of golds
Swimming champ Karishma Karki has set a new national record by winning twelve gold medals in the ongoing fifth National Games at Kathmandu.
She set a new record by beating Nayana Shakya’s record of nine gold medals in the fourth National Games eleven years ago.
Karishma, who had bagged eight medals by Wednesday, became the sportsperson to win the highest number of golds ever in National Games after she won four more golds Thursday.
She won the gold medal for 50-m backstroke and 100-m freestyle Thursday afternoon.
On Wednesday, Karki won the gold in women’s 50m freestyle, 4x100m freestyle relay, women’s 200-meter freestyle and the 200m backstroke at the contest in Satdobato swimming complex. She had won four golds on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Jhanta Kumari Katuwal of Nepal Police set six national records in women’s 63-kg weight category at women’s weight lifting.
Likewise, Basanti Kumari Chaudhary, Keshary Chauudhary, Santosh Shrestha, Pramila Rijal have set national records in various athletic events.
