CC2C: Abrupt end in Nepal
The struggle to keep afloat in India was more than enough. But more trouble has come calling as the innings of 'Chandni Chowk To China' in Nepal has been stalled by the government.
The wrong interpretation of Gautham Buddha's birthplace in the movie has led to students protesting and demanding to stop the screenings in the capital Kathmandu. The historical truth is that Buddha was born in a place called Lumbini in south of Nepal in the 623 BC and the place is a big tourist attraction.
This chaos in Nepal was never expected as the censor board of the country had already chopped off the wrong information. But the pirated CDs of the film without any cuts had already found their way into the markets and that was enough for the Nepali citizens to label it as an insult to their country.
'Chandni Chowk To China' has been taken off from all cinema halls in Kathmandu and the exhibitors are screening other recently released Hindi movies to fill the gap.
